Storage Tips
Efficient organization and packing enables better protection and easier access to your belongs. Storage Stop offers a variety of packing supplies to fulfill your packing and storage needs.
Here are a few tips you may find helpful when preparing your items for storage:
-
Label all boxes and containers. Doing so will help better organize your belongings.
-
Fill boxes to capacity to prevent them from bulging or collapsing.
-
Store small items in furniture drawers. Wrap them in bubble wrap or paper.
-
Wrap glassware and dishes in paper individually to avoid breakage. Fill gaps in boxes with bubble wrap or paper.
-
Wrap lamp shades separately for better protection, using packing paper instead of newspaper to avoid stains from newsprint.
-
Stand sofas and mattresses on end to create more usable storage space. Cover upholstered furniture and mattresses to protect against stains.
-
Pack books in small boxes for easier lifting. Limit weight to 30 pounds or less. Lay books flat to protect spines.
-
Refrigerators/freezers should be dry and drained of all fluids prior to storage. Appliance doors should be removed or taped shut.
-
Lawnmowers and garden equipment should be drained of all fuel prior to storage to avoid corrosive damage.
-
Wardrobe boxes provide a good way to store clothing on hangers. Shoes and folded clothing can be stored in the bottom of the box.

Do not store combustible materials in storage units. These include such items as propane tanks, cleaning fluids, paint, and gasoline.
